Background
Bayankhoshur is one of the districts in the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar. There are over 700,000 migrants from the countryside, most of whom live in a traditional Mongolian ger, a movable structure made from timber, canvas, and felt. The community is faced with a series of problems with no running water supply, no sewage system and extreme coldness reaching -40 degree Celsius in winter. The current efforts on infrastructure services and apartments have not reached the ger district on the fringes yet. While many residents move to this district closes to Ulaanbaatar and long for an advanced modern life, they can not afford building an apartment on their plots. The traditional ger provides a living space with inconvenient water and electric supply, a mixture of various functions as well as poor condition of privacy and safety.
